AIK coach Andreas Brännström has confirmed he received information about an alleged player revolt aimed at removing him from his position during spring 2023, admitting he had limited authority to handle the situation himself.
"I reported it to my superiors," Brännström said, describing how he chose to pass the information up to AIK's management rather than deal with it directly. The coach emphasized his restricted mandate in handling what he described as more serious than typical player dissatisfaction.
According to Fotbollskanalen, Brännström characterized the situation as the culmination of a longer period of internal problems at the Stockholm club. "It didn't come from nothing," he explained, noting he had never experienced anything similar during his coaching career.
The allegations, detailed in a recent book, claim three players planned actions to contribute to Brännström's dismissal. The supposed plot allegedly involved deliberately losing against Degerfors and making themselves unavailable for the Stockholm derby against Djurgården, with the goal of installing Henok Goitom as the new coach.
However, two of the players named in the allegations have strongly denied the accusations. One player dismissed the claims as "completely made up," casting doubt on the extent of any organized rebellion within AIK's squad during that turbulent period.
