AIK prioritize player sales over new signings in summer transfer strategy
Stockholm giants focus on reducing squad size and generating transfer income before considering reinforcements this summer window.

AIK are placing player departures ahead of new arrivals in their summer transfer planning as the Stockholm club continues its rebuilding phase under sporting director Miika Takkula.
According to Fotboll Sthlm, Takkula has outlined a clear strategy where generating transfer revenue takes precedence over squad additions. The Allsvenskan side currently considers their squad too large and aims to trim it to an optimal 25-26 players.
"If we get money into the club, we can look at strengthening the team," Takkula explained, emphasizing that any potential reinforcements depend entirely on incoming transfer fees.
Despite the sales-first approach, AIK have identified specific areas for improvement. The club remains in the market for a defensive midfielder who can win possession and a player capable of advancing the ball effectively through the middle of the pitch.
Takkula highlighted the positive impact of young talents Zadok Yohanna, Kevin Filling, and Charlie Pavey in raising the squad's overall market value. He believes AIK has achieved better balance between experienced players and developing prospects, creating sustainable conditions for regular player sales.
Regarding speculation about a potential record sale involving Yohanna, Takkula remained measured: "I'm the type of person who doesn't get too excited about a single performance or sale. When I see that we can do it over time – only then can I sit here with a smile."
The approach reflects AIK's long-term vision of combining competitive success with financial sustainability through strategic player development and sales.
