AIK Shocked as Cyprus Club Presents Their Loaned Player as Permanent Transfer

Stockholm giants dispute Omonia Nicosia's announcement of Andronikos Kakoullis signing, insisting they still own the striker's rights

AIK have expressed their shock after Cyprus club Omonia Nicosia announced the signing of striker Andronikos Kakoullis on a three-year deal, despite the player still being on loan from the Stockholm club.

The Swedish giants loaned Kakoullis to Aris Limassol last summer, with the deal running until July 9, 2026. However, Omonia Nicosia presented the Cypriot striker as a permanent acquisition from Aris Limassol on Monday, prompting AIK to issue a strong statement defending their position.

"We are very surprised by the information that has emerged. We still own the rights to the player and no club has the possibility to acquire a player from a club where he is on loan without a permanent transfer having taken place," AIK's recruitment chief Miika Takkula told Expressen.

AIK emphasized in an official statement that Aris Limassol have no authority to sell the player's contract to another club while he remains on loan. The loan agreement includes conditions that could trigger a permanent transfer, but the Stockholm club insists these have not yet been met.

The dispute highlights the complexities of international loan deals and raises questions about proper transfer protocols between clubs across different leagues and federations.
