Gustav Lundgren has committed his future to Gais by extending his contract until 2030, adding an extra year to his previous deal that was set to expire in 2029.
"I am very happy to have extended for another year so I can take back the year that I unfortunately lost in 2026," Lundgren said in a press release, speaking to Expressen.
The 31-year-old attacking midfielder is currently sidelined with a long-term injury after suffering an Achilles injury during the warm-up for Allsvenskan's opening match against Djurgården. The timing of the injury was particularly cruel for both player and club, coming just as the new season was getting underway.
Lundgren has established himself as one of Allsvenskan's premier players since joining Gais from Onsala BK in 2022. His performances at club level earned him a place in Sweden's World Cup squad, where he played a key role in the national team's qualification for the summer tournament.
The contract extension demonstrates Gais' faith in the experienced playmaker, even as he faces a lengthy rehabilitation period. For the Gothenburg-based club, securing Lundgren's services until 2030 represents a significant statement of intent as they look to build for the future.
According to Expressen, the extension will allow Lundgren to make up for the time lost due to his current injury setback.
