Hammarby have switched their managerial search to Henrik Rydström after Norwegian coach Eirik Horneland opted against a move to the Allsvenskan. The 51-year-old had been in talks with both Hammarby and Malmö FF but has reportedly chosen a different coaching opportunity elsewhere.
According to Fotbollskanalen, Horneland has decided against joining either Swedish club and is set to take up another coaching role. This development has prompted Hammarby to refocus their efforts on securing Rydström's services.
The Stockholm club's interest in Rydström is not new - they had explored the possibility of recruiting the Swedish coach during the winter transfer window. Contact has now been renewed following Rydström's recent departure from MLS side Columbus Crew.
Sources suggest the interest is mutual, with Rydström reportedly open to the Hammarby opportunity. However, the former IFK Göteborg coach is said to be in no rush to commit to a new position, with the right environment and conditions being crucial factors in his decision-making process.
A potential reunion could be on the cards, as Hammarby's Adrian von Heijne and Rydström know each other well from their time together at Sirius. This existing relationship could prove pivotal as negotiations continue between the two parties.
