Hammarby are set to complete a managerial change during the summer break with Henrik Rydström reportedly agreeing terms to become the club's new head coach.
According to Expressen, the Stockholm-based Allsvenskan side have decided to part ways with current manager Kalle Karlsson and have reached an agreement with Rydström on personal terms. The contract is expected to be finalized before the end of the week.
Rydström, who departed MLS club Columbus Crew in May, had multiple options following his exit from the American side. Danish Superliga club Brøndby were among the teams that showed interest in securing his services, but the experienced Swedish coach has opted to return to domestic football.
The 47-year-old brings impressive credentials to Hammarby, having previously managed several prominent Swedish clubs including Sirius, Kalmar FF, and Malmö FF. His most successful period came during his time at Malmö, where he guided the club to two Swedish championship titles.
Hammarby's decision to change coaches comes as the club looks to strengthen their position in the Allsvenskan. The appointment of Rydström represents a significant coup for the Stockholm outfit, given his proven track record in Swedish football and recent experience in Major League Soccer.
The move marks Rydström's return to Swedish football after his stint in the United States, bringing valuable international coaching experience back to the domestic league.
