Italian media slam Hiljemark after historic Pisa failure: 'Lowest point ever'

Former Elfsborg boss Oscar Hiljemark suffers brutal Italian criticism after managing just 2 wins in 15 matches and relegation from Serie A

Former IF Elfsborg manager Oscar Hiljemark has faced scathing criticism from Italian media following his disastrous stint at Pisa, which ended with the club's relegation from Serie A and his subsequent dismissal.

The Swedish coach, who left Elfsborg in February to take charge of the struggling Italian side, managed just two wins from 15 matches in Serie A. His mission was to keep Pisa in Italy's top flight, but instead presided over 13 defeats that sealed their relegation to Serie B.

Pisa confirmed Hiljemark's departure on Monday, prompting a brutal assessment from local chronicler Michele Bufalino. "Without doubt the lowest point on the coaching bench in Pisa's history," Bufalino wrote on Sestaporta, according to Fotbollskanalen.

The Italian journalist accused the former Sweden international of "amateurism and lack of professionalism," claiming his conduct both on and off the pitch was "without parallel in the club's history."

Hiljemark had built his coaching reputation during his time with Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan before taking the leap to Italian football. However, his Serie A adventure lasted just a few months and ended in spectacular failure.

Bufalino delivered perhaps the most damning verdict on the Swede's brief tenure: "He arrived in incompetence and left in exactly the same way."
