Jon Dahl Tomasson will return to the international stage in a new capacity at the 2026 World Cup, having been selected for FIFA's expert analysis group following his departure as Sweden head coach.

According to Expressen, the Danish coach will be part of a specialist team tasked with analyzing all 104 matches during the tournament. The group will provide tactical analysis, performance data, and real-time insights from the expanded World Cup format.

Tomasson became the first Sweden national team coach ever to be dismissed when he was sacked in October 2025. Despite the setback, his expertise has been recognized by FIFA for the tournament taking place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The analysis team operates under the leadership of former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who currently serves as FIFA's chief of global football development. Former Switzerland goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler will act as group coordinator.

Tomasson joins an impressive roster of football legends including World Cup winners Jürgen Klinsmann and Gilberto Silva, ex-Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta, and American soccer icon Tobin Heath.

The expert group will collaborate closely with FIFA's Football Performance Insights Team throughout the tournament. Using advanced match data, video analysis, and tactical expertise, they will identify trends and provide in-depth content through the FIFA Training Centre for the largest World Cup in history.
