Former Djurgarden midfielder Keita Kosugi's dream move to German football has turned into a nightmare, with the Japanese player yet to make his professional debut six months after leaving Stockholm.
The 25-year-old, who was a key player for Djurgarden in Allsvenskan, made the switch to Germany in the winter transfer window with high hopes of establishing himself in European football. However, his adaptation has proven far more difficult than expected.
"His first half-year became a lost half-year," journalist Christopher Michel told Expressen. "It's not normal."
Instead of breaking into the first team, Kosugi has found himself playing in Germany's fifth division - a dramatic fall from the top flight of Swedish football where he was a regular starter for the Stockholm club.
The midfielder's struggles highlight the challenges faced by Scandinavian players when making the jump to more competitive European leagues. Kosugi had been one of Djurgarden's most promising talents, making his difficulties in Germany all the more surprising.
With the summer transfer window approaching, questions are now being raised about whether the Japanese international will seek a move elsewhere to revive his career or continue fighting for his place in the German football system.
