Örgryte IS sporting director Pontus Farnerud has outlined the club's approach for the remainder of the season as the newly-promoted side battles to avoid immediate relegation from Allsvenskan.
The Gothenburg club currently sits bottom of Sweden's top flight after a difficult start to their return to the elite division. However, a strong performance against Elfsborg has given the team renewed hope for the challenges ahead.
"You just have to realize that it's tougher and requires a little more," Farnerud told Expressen.
The 46-year-old former Sweden international, who had a distinguished playing career before moving into administration, emphasized that the club will not panic in the transfer market despite their precarious position. Instead, Örgryte are focusing on making calculated decisions that align with their long-term strategy.
Farnerud identified what he considers the most crucial factor for the club's survival hopes, though he stressed the importance of maintaining financial discipline throughout any potential summer business.
Örgryte's promotion to Allsvenskan marked their return to Sweden's top division after years in the lower leagues. The historic Gothenburg club, founded in 1887, now faces the challenge of adapting to the increased demands of elite Swedish football under head coach Andreas Holmberg.
With the summer transfer window approaching, all eyes will be on how Farnerud and his team navigate the delicate balance between strengthening the squad and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
