Studenternas stadium artificial turf replacement underway with FIFA Quality Pro surface before July fixtures resume

IK Sirius will return to Allsvenskan action on a brand new playing surface after work began this week to replace the artificial turf at their Studenternas stadium home.

The current synthetic pitch, which has been in place since 2023, is being upgraded ahead of Sirius's league restart against Mjällby in early July. Work commenced on Monday and is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

According to UNT, the existing surface has accumulated around 2,000 hours of usage annually, well within the manufacturer's 6,000-hour warranty period. Uppsala Arenor och Fastigheter confirmed the new installation will maintain the same playing characteristics as before, but in an updated version.

The replacement turf comes from the same supplier and carries FIFA Quality Pro certification, ensuring it meets international standards for professional football. The new surface will feature black rubber granules of the latest generation, while the underlying shock pad may remain in place pending quality control approval.

"We hope it will go at least as well," said Stefan Wittberg with a laugh when asked about Sirius's prospects on the new surface.

The old artificial turf will find new life at Österängens IP rather than going to waste. Officials aim to complete the installation before the end of June, allowing time for the surface to settle before competitive action returns to the Uppsala venue.
