Västerås SK have launched a scathing public attack on the renovation process of their Hitachi Energy Arena, warning that construction delays could force the club to play their home matches in another city from the 2027 season.

The club describes their future as "a black box, locked and without a visible key" as they claim to still lack both a timeline and risk analysis for the crucial stadium project. VSK's biggest concern centers on whether the procurement process can be completed on schedule, with the club stating that tendering has not yet been published.

According to Västerås SK, VSK believes a realistic scenario would see construction beginning only in autumn, significantly increasing the risk that the arena will not be ready for the 2027 season. The club warns that further dispensations from the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) and Swedish Elite Football (SEF) cannot be taken for granted.

The most critical requirements involve hospitality areas as well as media and press facilities. VSK also expresses concern about phases two and three of the development, claiming they have virtually no information about continued arena development. City of Västerås representatives have reportedly indicated that further expansion could be delayed for several years.

If the arena fails to meet approval standards, VSK risk being forced to play home matches elsewhere, which the club warns would have significant economic, sporting and brand consequences. They conclude by demanding a clear timeline, realistic risk assessment and concrete plan from Västerås city officials.
